It's PrEP Bitch!

April 9th, 2024

Why We’re Getting The Message Out on PrEP

There’s a highly effective medication to prevent HIV available, but only 1 in 10 who can benefit from PrEP are taking it in Ontario.

While 1 in 2 new HIV diagnoses are in gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (gbMSM) – 1 in 4 new HIV diagnoses are in women, and 33% of cases involved heterosexual individuals.

People of all genders and backgrounds can benefit. This is why our clinic has tackled barriers to improve accessibility and cost for all. This is especially crucial for people that are too frequently left behind – including marginalized communities, women, and newcomers.

PrEP is also more than just getting a prescription – it’s about getting the right sexual health care with it too. This includes accessing all the rights tests like swabs, being provided preventative services like HPV vaccines, and access to proper STI assessments and treatment injections.

PrEP is for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. If you’re sexually active and don’t know your partners status 100% of the time, PrEP may be an option for you!

Film Production & Shoot Day

We had come up with an idea to do something fun, bold, and original. “It’s PrEP Bitch” was truly a combined effort of many artistic talents from song production and recording, to choreography and rehearsal, to the final shoot day. When you’re queer-owned and operated, you go big or go home!

Once Farah and Lady Pista had developed the lyrics and track we knew something incredible was born. The team was absolutely stoked to collaborate with the iconic trio of Tynomi Banks, Jada Shada Hudson and BOA . We got to work with some other familiar clinic faces like Shazad and Evan – and new ones like Sean (with his killer dance skills).

For choreography we looked no further than Your Dance Class, which is a dance studio focused on empowerment and body positivity. Sarah and Sorina whipped us all into shape during rehearsals and gave an important voice for women in the video. Connor designed beautiful dresses for the Queens, we were joined by Quinton who captured the day’s essence with his camera, and Daniela kept everyone looking on point.

There was such a strong sense of togetherness during the shoot – and it was amazing to work with members of LGBTQ+ community but also many allies in an inclusive production. One moment really stood out to us: when Tynomi Banks and Sarah dove into a passionate discussion about the dance world. It’s a topic we admire and everyone got to share their perspectives, styles, and discuss how dance is such a beautiful form of expression & communication.

The film crew brought their absolute A-game and it was incredibly heartwarming to see how Nick (director) and Andrew (head of cinematography) team up for the first time. They worked together with such respect and care, seamlessly complementing each other without stepping on toes. It was a beautiful display of teamwork and camaraderie.

Shine Like The Star You Are

This team of diverse artists really showed up and served to champion sexual health and HIV prevention.

Remember to get yo vax for HPV – and don’t forget the swabs in routine STI testing (don’t worry, ours at the clinic are much smaller).

Get that PrEP, baby! Lets go! Let’s go!
